The All Golds travel to Coventry on Sunday in round eight of Kingstone Press League 1.

Lee Greenwood’s side come into the game off the back of a crucial 36-28 win against North Wales Crusaders last weekend and the All Golds head coach says Sunday’s game against Coventry will be just as tough. “I’ve got a lot of time for Coventry. They’re doing some good things off the field, it looks like they’re in it for the long haul. We’ve had some great battles with them in recent seasons and we’re looking forward to another on Sunday. They’re a well coached side and will be right up for it, we need to be at our best to win for sure.

“I was pleased with the attitude we showed last time out. We were 18-6 down without doing a whole lot wrong but we didn’t panic. We were under huge pressure late on as well but we toughed it out. It was a big win but we need to go on now and back that up on Sunday. The league table is so tight, every point is hard to come by.”

Phil Cowburn, who is just three games away from a century of appearances for the club, won’t be available for the game on Sunday but is quietly optimistic of making the Newcastle game on June 4. Alex Gaskell remains sidelined which means Jack Mitchell, so impressive in the victory over Crusaders, is likely to start at full back. Ben Stead came through his first game back from injury unscathed and is likely to continue his partnership with Danny Fallon in the halves. New signing Brad Hargreaves could be in line for selection.

The Bears currently lie in 14th place in League 1, their solitary league win coming on Good Friday against Oxford. They have looked dangerous in their last two games though and will be confident on putting on a performance in front of their own fans on Sunday. A fortnight ago they competed for large spells against Keighley and last Sunday they were only two points down at half time against York before running out of steam in the second half.
