Lee Greenwood has added to his squad on the eve of the All Golds’ first game of 2017, signing Adam Jones and Josh Houghton on one-month loan deals from Championship side Swinton Lions.

Jones, a back rower, was at Salford under 19s before joining Swinton in the autumn. Houghton, a half back who can also play at hooker, came through the Widnes academy before signing with the Lions before Christmas.

The All Golds head coach says he’s looking forward to working with the Swinton pair. “We spoke to both Adam and Josh about joining us in October but fair play to them they both signed for Swinton. Their head coach John Duffy rates them very highly and expects them to be pushing for a first team place at some point during the season. Ian Watson and Dennis Betts had given us good reports on both of them previously too so we are looking forward to them linking up with us”, said Greenwood.

The Golden Fern play their first competitive game of the new season next Sunday against Hemel Stags in the League 1 Cup. The third round of the Challenge Cup comes a week later followed by the start of the League 1 season and a trip up to south Leeds to take on Hunslet on March 5.
