All Golds head coach Lee Greenwood has had to make a number of changes to his match day squad after a sickness bug ruled three key players out of Sunday’s game against Hunslet.
Training was cancelled on Tuesday as a number of players suffered from sickness and flu like symptoms. Phil Cowburn, Chris Barlow and Alex Gaskell have all been ruled out of Sunday’s game with sickness and back-rower Chris Worrall is also on the sidelines after suffering a leg injury in the 36-18 win against Crusaders last weekend. Greenwood said the preparation for the game hasn’t been ideal but he expects his squad to still be competitive come kick-off. “It’s been a bit of a bad week after the great win last Sunday. It’s annoying to lose players to sickness but we’ve just got to get on with it. We’ll move a few players about and it will give opportunities to some players to show the coaching staff what they can do”, said Greenwood.
“We cancelled training on Tuesday to make sure it didn’t spread to more players. It will be a tough game against Hunslet. They did really well against Coventry last week and didn’t concede a point. They play some good stuff and I’d be very surprised if they’re not up there challenging for promotion come the end of the season.”
If the All Golds are looking for inspiration ahead of Sunday’s game then they will find it from the last time they travelled to Hunslet in July 2014 – a stunning 23-16 win against the two-time Challenge Cup winners.
