All Golds head coach Lee Greenwood says he is working hard on recruitment ahead of the new season but has warned he will only bring in players who show the necessary desire to buy into the club’s ethos.

On the eve of his third season in charge of the Golden Fern the former England winger says he’s happy with his squad but, should the right player become available, he will look to make a move. “We’re always on the look out to add quality to the squad. However, we will not repeat past mistakes and get players in for the sake of it”, said Greenwood.

“If I bring in a new player he has to fully commit to the club. That means turning up for every training session with the right attitude. We’ve worked hard on getting in good people that will have a positive impact on the club. As I keep saying we are trying to build something that will make the club strong in years to come.

“We will look to loan players throughout the season if they are available to us.”

Greenwood says the pre-season Tuesday – Thursday – Saturday training sessions have been going well. “We’ve backed ourselves to train more often than we have done before and had our squad in from day one of pre-season which hasn’t happened before. We’re working hard in the gym and on the field”.

Greenwood confirmed his players won’t be playing any pre-season games ahead of the new campaign. He said: “We cannot afford to risk it. Our squad is not strong enough to cope with losing any senior players to injury. We’re training hard for the cup game against Hemel in mid February.”

Before then the coaching staff and players will be enjoying a long weekend in the Mediterranean. In early February the whole squad will spend four days in Malta where the players will be put through their paces by the All Golds coaching team, something Greenwood says he is looking forward to. “The trip to Malta will be great for us as not many teams at our level get to go away for a four day training camp. The players and staff have all paid for themselves which is a good sign of the commitment we are all making towards each other.

“We’ve managed to fit everything in to this pre-season that I’d wanted to include previously. Hopefully we’ll see improvements in performances once the season starts.”
