The All Golds face a quick turnaround from Sunday’s defeat to London Skolars when they cross the border to take on South Wales Ironmen on Friday.

The All Golds, who have beaten North Wales Crusaders, Keighley and Workington in recent weeks, looked set for another victory on Sunday when they lead London Skolars 16-4 but the side from the capital turned things round in the second half and pulled off a 24-22 victory. Reflecting on the game the All Golds’ head coach Lee Greenwood said: “The second half was pretty poor to be honest. We couldn’t combat Skolars after the break, we weren’t smart enough in key moments. We can have no complaints about the result, credit to Skolars they’re a good side.

“We’ve got a number of players that could come back for Friday. Jordan Andrade, Graham O’Keeffe, Jack Mitchell and Kadeem Williams missed out against Skolars but could feature against South Wales. We’ll have a good think about selection then put a plan in place to win the game.

“South Wales will target us as their first win of the season. It’s a local derby, so both teams will be up for it. There’s a number of players that will be looking to prove a point so it should make for a decent game.”

The All Golds will definitely be without injured pair Ben Stead and Alex Gaskell who aren’t expected to feature for several weeks. Brad Kislingbury, who has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury, could return.

The Ironmen have lost all five competitive fixtures this season. Skolars and Oxford knocked them out of the League 1 Cup and Challenge Cup respectively while their four league games have yielded no points. An opening day defeat to Whitehaven was followed by a two point defeat at York a week later. They lost another tight game at home to Newcastle in late March before being thrashed 58-6 at Hunslet on Sunday. Their performances at York and at home to Newcastle certainly show a fair amount of improvement from recent seasons, no doubt the All Golds’ players will be expecting a tough battle on Easter Friday.
