Wales Rugby League have named 19 of their 24-man Student international squad ahead of the Student World Cup in Australia in July and two are from the University of Gloucestershire.

Matt Davies and Liam Rice-Wilson (pictured) both contributed to the University’s Premier South title win this season and have earned places on the plane Down Under.

Head coach Latham Tawhai is 100% certain about these squad members so has named them early so they can begin their fundraising, as each player needs to pay his own way to the World Cup, be it through sponsorship or donations.

Tawhai said: “I’m pleased to name the initial group of players for the World Cup squad with a few places still up for grabs. I must stress, these places are open in all positions.

“All those who are not in this initial group will all be assessed at the next training camp and friendly game.

“Congratulation to those who have made the initial squad.”

The Student World Cup is being played in and around Sydney, Australia between July 7 and 6.
